Weekend Behind Bars For FINA Bureau’s Ekumbo As Police Ponder Sex Abuse Claims

When FINA Bureau member and Kenyan swimming federation boss Ben Ekumbo appeared in court to face charges of stealing Olympic sports kit yesterday, something much more serious rose from the swamp.
Prosecutors told Senior Principal Magistrate Joyce Gandani in Nairobi that they intend to charge Ekumbo that they intend to charge him with sexual molestation of young swimmers.
Ekumbo denied any wrongdoing, stating that the sex scandal happened “five years ago” and that abusers were investigated and punished according to the law.
Gandani ordered that Ekumbo be remanded until Monday to allow police more time to conclude initial investigations.
Ekumbo, Team Kenya’s Rio Olympics deputy chief of mission, was up before the magistrate on kit and money theft charges. He offered to refund $10,500 …
