Hungary – A Division Round 8: No surprise as #1 Alba defeats Vasas

The round ended with favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.A Division top team – Alba (7-1) added another victory to their record on Saturday. This time they beat thirteenth ranked Vasas (1-6) in Szekesfehervar 94-86. Vasas trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 28-24 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 86-94 at the end of the game. Alba looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a quality performance of Canadian guard Justin Edwards (190-92, college: Kansas St.) who helped to win the game recording 20 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals and American point guard Brandon Taylor (178-94, college: Utah) who added 15 points and 8 assists during the contest. American forward A.J. Pacher (208-92, college: Wright St.) responded with 28 points and 8 rebounds. Vasas’ coach Bulcsu Sarosi rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Alba have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-1 record. Vasas lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the thirteenth place with six games lost. Alba are looking forward to face Szolnok (#3) in Szolnok in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Vasas will play on the road against Kaposvari (#4) and are hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series. The game in Zalaegerszeg was also worth to mention about. 5th ranked PVSK Pannon (4-3) played at the court of eighth ranked ZTE KK (4-3). ZTE KK defeated PVSK Pannon 94-78. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of PVSK Pannon. ZTE KK moved-up to sixth place, which they share with defeated PVSK Pannon. ZTE KK will play against Falco KC (#9) in Szombathely in the next round. PVSK Pannon will play at home against Sopron KC and it may be a tough game between close rivals. The game in Zalaegerszeg was also quite interesting. Fifth ranked Kaposvari (5-3) played at the court of 8th ranked ZTE KK (4-3). Kaposvari managed to secure a 7-point victory 95-88 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was Jaytornah Wisseh who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 assists. Zsolt Szabo produced 18 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. ZTE KK’s coach Tamas Bencze tested ten players, but that didn’t help to avoid defeat in this game. Kaposvari moved-up to fourth place. ZTE KK at the other side dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. They share it with PVSK Pannon. Kaposvari will meet at home Vasas (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. ZTE KK will play against Falco KC (#9) and hope to secure a win. The game in Sopron was also worth to mention about. Top-ranked Kormend (6-0) played at the court of 6th ranked Sopron KC (4-4). Kormend managed to secure a 5-point victory 61-56. Perry Petty orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Undefeated Kormend have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 6-0 record behind leader Alba. Sopron KC at the other side dropped to the eighth place with four games lost. Kormend’s next round opponent will be Jaszberenyi (#10) on the road and are hoping to win another game. Sopron KC will play against PVSK Pannon in Pecs and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Important game to mention about took place in Szombathely. Tenth ranked Falco KC (3-4) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 12th ranked KTE-Duna (1-4) 75-73 on Saturday evening. Worth to mention a great performance of Lester Medford who helped to win the game recording 31 points and 5 rebounds. Falco KC moved-up to ninth place. KTE-Duna lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with four games lost. Falco KC will face higher ranked ZTE KK (#6) in Zalaegerszeg in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. KTE-Duna will play at home against MAFC (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. There were no shocking results in the other games in round 8: Jaszberenyi lost to Szedeak on the opponent’s court 86-92. Szolnok managed to outperform Atomeromu in a home game 105-87. PVSK Pannon rolled over MAFC on the road 92-58. The most impressive stats of the last round was 28 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists by Nemanja Protic of Jaszberenyi.ZTE KK – PVSK Pannon 94-78The game in Zalaegerszeg was also worth to mention about. 5th ranked PVSK Pannon (4-3) played at the court of eighth ranked ZTE KK (4-3). But then ZTE KK had a 31-22 second period charge getting the lead and PVSK Pannon was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 78-94. ZTE KK moved-up to sixth place, which they share with defeated PVSK Pannon. ZTE KK will play against Falco KC (#9) in Szombathely in the next round. PVSK Pannon will play at home against Sopron KC and it may be a tough game between close rivals. gschID: 497988Szedeak – Jaszberenyi 92-86Rather expected game in Szeged where 10th ranked Jaszberenyi (3-5) was defeated by eighth ranked Szedeak (4-2) 92-86 on Sunday. Jaszberenyi was trailing by 8 points at halftime but managed to get 7-point lead after three quarters before a 31-18 charge of Szedeak, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Jaszberenyi’s 32. Szedeak looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Jaszberenyi’s players. Jaszberenyi was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Serbian guard Marko Boltic (193-87, agency: 011 Sports) who helped to win the game recording 18 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists and Bulgarian Ivan Lilov (194-88, agency: Two Points) who added 23 points and 6 assists during the contest.
