Week 12 Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em: Advice on Fantasy Football Stars to Play or Bench
- Updated: November 24, 2016
Fantasy football owners have plenty to be thankful for in Week 12.
First and foremost, byes don’t exist. Three early Thursday games might struggle to produce fantasy juggernauts, but having six more teams on the field is much better than having six teams on the sidelines and not helping at all.
Then there are the matchups, with games such as Green Bay-Philadelphia, Arizona-Atlanta and even Seattle-Tampa Bay offering plenty of hints at elite production. Heck, even the waiver wire is on fire.
Perhaps the biggest negative is having so little time to prep while jumping through the hurdles of holiday season. Fret not—here is a look at notable matchup comparisons with an emphasis on stars to know and avoid.
Quarterback
Star to Know: Russell Wilson, SEA (at TB)
The Seattle Seahawks might not travel well, but owners should still have a close eye on quarterback Russell Wilson in Week 12.
Wilson gets the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are better than you might think with defensive talent such as Gerald McCoy. Tampa Bay allows the sixth-most points to quarterbacks on average and has coughed up 10 passing scores over its last four outings.
Now would be the time to mention Wilson has shattered his early slump, hitting on outbursts of 22 or more points three times in a row.
Bettors should expect a fourth big outing with relative ease.
Star to Sit: Matthew Stafford, DET (vs. MIN)
Owners can get away with benching notable stars at quarterback because it is so easy to find streaming options each week.
You should take this approach with Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, who runs into a Minnesota Vikings defense that allows the third-fewest points to signal-callers on average.
This is the second meeting between Stafford and the Vikings. In Week 9, he tossed two scores but finished with 14 points.
In fact, Stafford hasn’t looked good lately, as those 14 points were his highest output over his past three games. He hasn’t scored more than 20 since Week 6, so owners will want to steer clear of him.
Running Back
Star to Know: Lamar Miller, HOU (vs. SD)
