Aaron Ramsey, Edinson Cavani Incident Commented On by Steven Gerrard
- Updated: November 24, 2016
Former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard said Aaron Ramsey should be “embarrassed” by his over-reaction to an Edinson Cavani swipe as the pair clashed during Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain’s 2-2 UEFA Champions League draw on Wednesday.
Ramsey and Cavani squared up as the Uruguayan tried to delay a Gunners penalty late in the first half at the Emirates Stadium. When the striker swung his arm at the Welshman and appeared to hit his chest, the Arsenal man clutched his face.
Despite Ramsey’s reaction, Cavani’s hit did not appear to land anywhere near his chin. Former England captain Gerrard was not impressed with the midfielder, saying on BT Sport (via Liam Prenderville in the Mirror): “I think he should be a little embarrassed by that. I thought the Welsh are meant to be tough.”
