Gomez returns to action

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez made his return to competitive action as the Reds’ U23 side defeated Burnley 4-0 to reach the quarter-finals of the Lancashire Senior Cup on Wednesday night.
The 19-year-old, who has not played since suffering a cruciate ligament injury while with the England U21 squad last October, played the full 90 minutes at Kirby and provide an assist for Liverpool’s third goal.
Midfielder Matty Virtue, 19, scored a hat-trick for Liverpool with Spaniard Madger Gomes netting the other goal.
