Michael Chandler Retains Lightweight Title with Split Nod Win Over Benson Henderson

Reigning Bellator MMA lightweight champion Michael Chandler was the second titleholder in the promotion to crush Benson Henderson’s dreams on Saturday night. Chandler was the busier fighter and landed the better overall strikes to topple the challenger via split decision over five hard-fought rounds in the main event of Bellator 165 in San Jose. Chandler electrified the capacity crowd in the first with a highlight-reel suplex, but “Smooth” Benson was able to scramble out from underneath the champ and battle back into a better position.
