Ashwin’s five secures 200-run lead as India bat again

England 255 (Stokes 70, Bairstow 53, Root 53, Ashwin 5-67) trail India 455 (Kohli 167, Pujara 119, Ashwin 58, Moeen 3-98) by 200 runs Live scorecard and ball-by-ball details
India’s spinners finally cracked England’s resistance on the third afternoon at Visakhapatnam, rattling through the lower order with four wickets in the space of 12.2 overs to undo the valiant efforts of Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow and secure a 200-run lead in the second Test.
R Ashwin was, once again, India’s main man. Having made the day’s big breakthrough by extracting Stokes for a hard-earned 70 half an hour after lunch, he claimed consecutive lbws against Stuart Broad and then, one ball later, James Anderson, to complete innings figures of 5 for 67, his 22nd such haul in Test cricket.
Ravi Jadeja chimed in at the other end with his only wicket of the innings, trapping Zafar Ansari on the crease for 4 – one of five lbw decisions in England’s innings. Although India were entitled to enforce the follow-on, they decided instead to bat again, on a surface that hasn’t yet deteriorated as much as anticipated, but is unlikely to get any easier to play on when England’s second innings eventually gets underway.
