Red Sox add prospects Martin, Ysla to 40-man

BOSTON — The Red Sox added pitching prospects Kyle Martin and Luis Ysla to their 40-man roster on Friday, protecting them in advance of the Dec. 8 Rule 5 Draft.
Boston’s 40-man roster is now at 40.
Martin, a right-handed reliever, is No. 28 among Red Sox prospects according to MLBPipeline.com. Ysla, a lefty reliever, is ranked 24th.
The Red Sox selected the 25-year-old Martin in the ninth round of the 2013 Draft out of Texas A&M, and he’s worked exclusively as a reliever.
Using a sinking fastball that ranges from the low to mid 90s, Martin is one of the best strikeout pitchers in the Red Sox’s farm system. Pitching the entire 2016 season at Triple-A Pawtucket, Martin converted all six of his save opportunities while posting a 3.38 ERA in 66 2/3 innings.
