Arsenal Transfer News: Latest on Aaron Ramsey, Fresh Gunners Rumours
- Updated: November 18, 2016
Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey in a £25 million deal.
According to an exclusive from the Sun’s Phil Cadden, Los Blancos are confident of successfully appealing their impending transfer ban and hope to bring in Ramsey in a bid to “freshen up the team’s midfield,” with James Rodriguez and potentially Luka Modric expected to move on by the summer.
Real will be able to offer him a “substantial increase” on his £90,000 weekly salary and could acquire him in something of a cut-price deal.
He has less than two years remaining on his contract, and it is believed Arsenal still owe the Spanish giants £11 million from Mesut Ozil’s transfer, which could be set against Ramsey’s fee.
The Welshman has been absent for much of the campaign with injury and despite his versatility—which allows him to play in central midfield, out wide or in a more advanced role—the Gunners’ form and strength in depth could make it difficult to force his way back into the starting lineup.
Indeed, Arsenal also have Granit Xhaka, Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny and Santi Cazorla vying for the two central midfield places, while they have pacier options on the flanks.
Ramsey’s passing range, work rate and effectiveness going forward helped him stand out for Wales at UEFA Euro 2016, per OptaJoe:
