Altuve finishes 3rd in AL MVP Award vote

Fresh off a career year, Astros second baseman Jose Altuve earned a third-place finish in voting for the American League Most Valuable Player Award, which was announced Thursday by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. The Angels’ Mike Trout won the award, while Boston’s Mookie Betts was runner-up.
Altuve won his second AL batting title in three years and set career highs in homers (24), RBIs (96), slugging percentage (.531), total bases (340) and OPS (.928). Altuve was voted by his peers as the 2016 Player of the Year in the Players Choice Awards, as well as the Outstanding Player in the AL.
