Chelsea were the first team to ever win at St Mary’s in August 2001 and they have achieved both of the last two away victories there, having won in February and on Sunday. Southampton went unbeaten in 12 home matches in all competitions in between.

Chelsea have now won on six of their last eight visits to Southampton in all competitions. It was their fourth consecutive win and fourth consecutive clean sheet. They are currently on a run of 11 unanswered goals in the league.

Branislav Ivanovic came on as a substitute on Sunday and remains the last Chelsea player to score with a header in the Premier League. That was the winner against Southampton in February.

It was only Southampton’s third defeat in 16 Premier League games. Chelsea became the first team to stop Southampton scoring at home since last Christmas.

Finally, Chelsea had 11 points after 10 matches last season. After 10 games of this season, they have exactly double that total!
