Sweden – Basketettan Round 7: Talje Knights record their first victory

FilipKovacek Basketettan is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 7 rounds left. There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with favorites losing the games and even winless team recording their first victory.Talje Knights has finally registered their first victory this season after five consecutive losses. The win is especially important as it came on the road game in Hoganas, where they defeated Hoganas (0-4) 104-92 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Talje Knights. Hoganas managed to win fourth quarter 22-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Talje Knights looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. It was a great evening for point guard Filip Kovacek (182-95) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 5 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals. Forward Ludvig Swanstrom (195-96) helped adding 22 points and 7 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). At the losing side Lithuania center Martynas Kuksta (203-89) responded with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 5 blocks. Talje Knights (1-5) left bottom position moving up to ninth place, which they share with Helsingborg and Lobas. It was Hoganas’ fourth loss in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. Talje Knights will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Hoganas will play on the road against Helsingborg (#9) and hope to get finally their first victory.Taby Basket has finally registered their first victory this season after two consecutive losses. The win is especially important as it came on the road game in Jamtland, where they defeated Jamtland II (2-5) 71-61. It was an exceptional evening for guard Mattias Herlitz (190-94) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Marcus Friman accounted for 24 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Oliver Gehrke (198-0) came up with 14 points and 5 rebounds for Jamtland II in the defeat. Jamtland II’s coach Zeljko Brlek rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn’t help. Taby Basket (1-2) left bottom position moving up to tenth place. It was Jamtland II’s third loss in a row. They keep the eighth position with five games lost. They share it with BG Lulea. Taby Basket will play against higher ranked Alvik Basket (#3) in Bromma in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Jamtland II will have a break next round. Basketettan top team – Hogsbo (6-0) added another victory to their record on Sunday. This time they beat ninth ranked Helsingborg (1-5) in Goteborg 76-71. Lukas Brehm fired 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Hogsbo’s coach Jonas Fredrikson used entire bench in such tough game. Erik Joelsson produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds for lost side. Undefeated Hogsbo have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 6-0 record. Helsingborg lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with five games lost. They share it with Lobas and Talje. Hogsbo will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Helsingborg will play against Hoganas (#12) and hope to win that game. Bottom-ranked KFUM Blackeberg (0-3) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their third consecutive match to ninth ranked BG Lulea (2-5) 57-51. Worth to mention a great performance of William Eriksson-Hansson who helped to win the game recording 10 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. BG Lulea’s coach let to play all 12 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. BG Lulea moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Jamtland II. KFUM Blackeberg lost their third game in a row. They still close the standings with three games lost. BG Lulea’s supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Lulea to the arena LF Future. The game in Trelleborg was also quite interesting. 5th ranked Wetterbygden (4-3) played at the court of sixth ranked Trelleborg (3-1). Trelleborg managed to secure a 8-point victory 91-83 on Sunday. It was a great evening for John Fitzgerald who led his team to a victory scoring 29 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Trelleborg’s coach Ali Lou used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Trelleborg moved-up to third place, which they share with Alvik Basket and LF Future. Wetterbygden at the other side keeps the fifth position with three games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest. There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 7: KFUM Central won against KFUM Uppsala on the opponent’s court 92-82. IK Eos managed to outperform Wetterbygden in a home game 102-94. Eskilstuna managed to beat Lobas on the road 82-68. Koping defeated RIG Mark on its own court 86-69.
