Hilal at the double in Sudan

Omdurman giants, El Hilal completed a domestic double after beating El Hilal Obayed 2-1 in the final of the Sudan Cup last Thursday (27 October 2016) in Madani, situated in the central part of the country. Hilal had earlier wrapped up the Sudan Premier League title for the 2016 season, for the 26th time in their history. The ‘Seed al-balad’ outfit owes their success this term largely to young duo, striker Mohannad Moussa and left back Ramadan Kabo, who were both on target in the Sudan Cup final.  Mohannad scored opened the scores just before the interval before Kabo added the second with a spectacular free-kick outside the Obayed penalty area with Ivorian left-back Sheikh Mokoro scoring in between for Obayed. It was the seventh time Hilal had annexed the domestic knockout competition after previous triumphs in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2009 and 2011. Regarding the league, Hilal had the title in their kitty with two games to spare, amassing 90 points made up of 28 wins from 34 matches, three draws and three losses. The ‘Blue Waves’ also scored 82 goals and letting in just 15. However, the feat was achieved with four coaches who steered the Omdurman-based club during the just ended season. Frenchman Jean-Michel Cavalli, started the season, taking charge of pre-season preparations in Algeria in December 2015, only for his contract to be canceled despite guiding Hilal to wins in the opening four matches. In all, he spent 66 days in charge. Next in line was Egyptian Tarek El-Ashry, who took charge for only seven games including their first loss of the season, to newcomers, Al Nil Shandy.
