2016 Premier League 2: Monday’s U23 Scores, Latest Tables and Updated Fixtures

Everton’s under-23 side failed to move to the top of the Premier League 2 after drawing 1-1 with Chelsea on Monday evening, where a share of the spoils was only enough to take them within one point of Division 1 leaders Manchester City.

Derby County moved off the bottom of the table in Division 1’s other Monday fixture, upsetting Southampton with a 2-0 victory at the iPro Stadium, thanks to strikes from Andreas Weimann and Timi Max Elsnik.

Elsewhere, Swansea City edged 10-man Stoke City 2-1, meaning Wolves’ last-gasp 4-3 win over Fulham was only enough to ensure they remained two points behind the Division 2 leaders.

Wolves weren’t the only team to score in big numbers, either, after Aston Villa pummelled Blackburn Rovers 4-0. Newcastle United and West Ham United kept the pressure on in mid-table, meanwhile, following wins over Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion, respectively.

Derby staged a surprise at home to fourth-placed Southampton on Monday and yanked themselves into 11th after earning their second win of the season, not to mention their first clean sheet of the new term.

Goals from Weimann and Elsnik helped steer the Rams to a rare triumph over tough opposition, and it was the latter of the scoring pair who gave his side the more attractive of the two strikes:

Second-placed Everton were worthy of their point following a 1-1 draw at home to Chelsea, with Harry Charsley playing the hosts’ hero after Dujon Sterling thrust the west Londoners into a fifth-minute lead.
