Brazil win U20 Women’s South American Championship

Uberaba, Brazil, October 30, 2016 – Brazil captured the top prize at the XXIII South American U20 Championship on Sunday by beating Peru 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-14) on the final day at Uberaba’s Coliseo del Centro Olyimpico.
Brazil were undefeated in all five matches in the round-robin tournament. Argentina took the silver medal and Peru the bronze. Brazil’s Llorrayna was named the tournament MVP.
The win means Brazil will represent South America at the July 7-16 FIVB World Championship in Mexico next year.
The top scorer in the deciding match was Brazilian Glayce with 15 points. For Peru, Leslie Leyva, who was named to the Best Team, scored 14 points. Brazil dominated in attacking (38-28) and blocking (11-6) while Peru had a slight advantage in service (5-4).
“I am very happy,” Glayce commented. “We played good volleyball and I have to thank my teammates and coaching staff. This was my first championship with the national team and our hard work was rewarded with the title.”
