The big question: Will Schwarber play OF?
- Updated: October 27, 2016
CHICAGO — Kyle Schwarber’s surprising return from what was assumed to be a season-ending knee injury to ignite the Cubs’ offense has been the biggest story of the first two games of the World Series. And with the Cubs-Indians Fall Classic tied at a game apiece, there is now talk of him playing the field in Game 3 — a possibility that seemed unthinkable as recently as Tuesday.
Through two games, Schwarber is 3-for-7 with a double and two walks while serving as Chicago’s designated hitter. But with the next three games at Wrigley Field and the DH slot not an option in National League parks, Cubs doctors and coaches will have to decide at a workout Thursday whether Schwarber, who had surgery to repair a torn ACL and LCL six months ago, can play the outfield.
