Hazen brings Boston colleague Sawdaye aboard

PHOENIX — The D-backs officially introduced assistant general manager Amiel Sawdaye on Wednesday, and the process to find the team’s next manager is expected to heat up soon.

Sawdaye, 39, had an opportunity to stay with the Red Sox, where he was vice president in charge of amateur and international scouting, but he elected instead to follow newly hired general manager Mike Hazen to Arizona.

“Obviously the relationship with Mike made it most appealing,” Sawdaye said. “Coming to the Diamondbacks, there’s young talent here, a lot of really good people, really good staff, really good players up and down the roster. I think just a new challenge for me is something that I’m really excited about and I’m excited to be out here in the desert.”

Sawdaye interviewed for the Red Sox GM job, which Hazen vacated to join the D-backs. However, it now appears Boston will not promote anyone to the GM position under president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski.
