The Hit List: Undefeated Fighters in the UFC
- Updated: October 26, 2016
Joanna Jedrzejczyk has filled the void in wake of Ronda Rousey’s unexpected fall. Of the 648 fighters the Ultimate Fighting Championship lists on its UFC.com roster, only 28 of them — 4.3 percent — are undefeated and have posted at least one victory inside the Octagon. Jedrzejczyk, 12-0, has gone from virtual unknown to legitimate mixed martial arts superstar in less than two years. The 29-year-old Polish muay Thai machine captured the women’s strawweight championship when she bludgeoned Carla Esparza with punches in March 2015 and has successfully defended it on three occasions since, besting Jessica Penne, Valerie Letourneau and archrival Claudia Gadelha in succession. Jedrzejczyk has been a statistical dynamo in her six UFC appearances: She has thrown 613 more total strikes than her opponents, according to FightMetric data. No other female fighter lands more strikes per minute than “Joanna Champion” (6.68), and her 4.25 strike differential ranks first on the UFC’s all-time list. Jedrzejczyk will put her 115-pound title and perfect record on the line against Karolina Kowalkiewicz at UFC 205 on Nov. 12.Among other unbeaten UFC fighters, Mirsad Bektic has begun to stand out. The American Top Team prospect returned from a 16-month absence at UFC 204 on Oct. 8 and did so triumphantly, as he submitted Russell Doane with a rear-naked choke 4:22 into the first round of their featherweight battle in Manchester, England. The decisive victory moved the 25-year-old Bektic to 11-0. Many view him as a future title contender at 145 pounds.
