Eric Dier has admitted his surprise after Tottenham team-mate Harry Kane did not make the 30-man Ballon d’Or shortlist.
The annual award crowns the best player in the world, and the contenders for the 2016 trophy were announced earlier this week by France Football.
It includes a number of Premier League players, including Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez alongside Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Manchester United.
Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne, Dimitri Payet and fellow Spurs player Hugo Lloris were also selected as nominees, but Kane – who finished as the Premier League’s top scorer last season – was not included.
