Poland – TBL Round 3: Twarde Pierniki defeats MKS Dabrowa Gornicza

Jure Skific This is still too early stage of the Regular Season in TBL and we should expect many changes in upcoming rounds. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with loss of the undefeated team, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of MKS Dabrowa Gornicza (3-1) at the home court on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by Twarde Pierniki (3-0) 65-59. Twarde Pierniki forced 20 MKS Dabrowa Gornicza turnovers. It was a good game for Croatia forward Jure Skific (202-88, agency: 011 Sports) who led his team to a victory with 8 points and 9 rebounds. American-Hungarian point guard Obadiah Trotter (188-84, college: Alabama A&M) contributed with 15 points for the winners. American point guard Kerron Johnson (183-90, college: Belmont) answered with 14 points and 7 rebounds for MKS Dabrowa Gornicza. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Twarde Pierniki are looking forward to face Trefl (#7) in Sopot in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. MKS Dabrowa Gornicza will play on the road against PGE Turow (#8) in Zgorzelec and is hoping to win this game. Very important is a home loss of AZS Polfarmex (2-1) against AZS Koszalin (1-2) on Saturday night. Host AZS Polfarmex was crushed by AZS Koszalin in Kutno 81-57. It was a great evening for American center Darrell Harris (205-84, college: Rhode Island) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. Remon Nelson helped adding 12 points and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was the former international Dardan Berisha (191-88) with 12 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. AZS Koszalin will play against PGE Turow (#8) in Zgorzelec in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. AZS Polfarmex will play on the road against Asseco in Gdynia and hopes to get back on the winning track. MKS Dabrowa Gornicza (3-1) managed to deliver another win on Friday. This time they beat Anwil (1-2) 70-56. It was a quality performance for Kerron Johnson who led the winners and scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. MKS Dabrowa Gornicza’s coach Drazen Anzulovic used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Fedor Dmitriev came up with 9 points and 4 assists for Anwil in the defeat. MKS Dabrowa Gornicza will meet PGE Turow (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Anwil will play against Krosno and hope to win that game. A very interesting game took place in Szczecin. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of PGE Turow (2-1) to Wilki Morskie (2-1) 107-105 in the fight for the fifth place. The best player for the winners was Pawel Kikowski who scored 27 points (went 13 for 13 at the free throw line !!!). Wilki Morskie’s coach Marek Lukomski allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Wilki Morskie’s next round opponent will be Trefl (#7) in Sopot. PGE Turow will play at home against AZS Koszalin and hope to win that game. Important game to mention about took place in Sopot. Trefl (2-1) saved a 3-point victory at home edging Rosa (2-2) 85-82 on Saturday evening. It was a good game for Anthony Ireland who led his team to a victory with 28 points and 7 rebounds. Rosa’s coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Trefl will face Wilki Morskie (#5) in Szczecin in the next round. Rosa will play at home against Stabill (#16) and hope to win that game. There were no big surprises in other games of round 3: Asseco beat Energa Czarni on the road 81-71. Krosno won against Start Lublin on its own court 87-74. Stelmet ZG managed to outperform Polpharma in Zielona Gora 73-64. Winless Siarka recorded a loss to Stal Ostrow at home 60-69. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. 30 personal fouls committed by PGE Turow helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities.
