Notebook: JGR Did Not Violate Rules

Joe Gibbs Racing’s plan to stay out of trouble and ride at the back of the pack at Talladega Sunday did not violate any NASCAR rule. Three of the team’s drivers – Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth – employed a strategy of falling to the back of the field all during Sunday’s Hellmann’s 500 in order to protect their position in the point standings and move on to the next round of the Chase. The idea worked and the trio are now part of the Round of 8 along with teammate Denny Hamlin, giving JGR half of the remaining drivers still in the championship hunt.
