CLEVELAND — Kyle Schwarber will be with the Cubs for the World Series, and not just as a cheerleader, but as a potential powerful left-handed hitter. Manager Joe Maddon said that Schwarber would be in the Game 1 lineup as the designated hitter on his weekly radio show on 670 The Score. A team official confirmed to MLB.com that he would be in the lineup tonight.

Schwarber, who suffered a regular season-ending knee injury in the third game of the year, was added to the Cubs’ World Series roster on Tuesday after playing his second Arizona Fall League game Monday in Mesa, Ariz. He went 1-for-3 with a double and scored a run, and that was all the Cubs needed to see.

Schwarber replaces Rob Zastryzny on the roster; the Cubs are now carrying 11 pitchers.

“To have another young guy here who has a track record of hitting home runs, who is a threat, who, when you see his name in the lineup, there’s some scariness to that — we can’t wait to have him back,” Chicago’s Addison Russell said. “I’m a big Kyle Schwarber fan. I love what he does; I can’t wait until he gets here.”
