World Series is quite the showcase for MLB

CLEVELAND — The 112th World Series will be one of Major League Baseball’s largest platforms to showcase its many year-round community initiatives, creating opportunities to spread goodwill messages ranging from youth sports participation to cancer awareness to public service to social justice to environmental responsibility. Here are upcoming highlights:

Game 1: Commissioner Rob Manfred will visit the Boys and Girls Clubs at Luis Muñoz Marin School, part of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, where MLB and the Indians will host a fun indoor baseball event. This effort seeks to highlight the game’s ongoing commitment to youth, particularly through the Play Ball initiative, and to celebrate Baseball’s partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

• World Series Game 1: Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. ET air time | 8 ET game time on FOX

Indians owner & CEO Paul Dolan will attend along with former Indians Brian Anderson, Len Barker, Joe Charboneau and Jason Stanford. Also on hand will be Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholar alumna Kendra Gaither (Class of ’96). Gaither is a member of the JRF Mid-Atlantic Selection Committee based in Washington and is the Senior Policy Director of the Americas at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Jocelyn Woods, a freshman at the University of Southern California, will deliver the first pitch ball while representing BGCA as its newly named National Youth of the Year.

MLB, Anheuser-Busch and Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management (TEAM) Coalition will host Amelia Reid, the Indians winner of the “Responsibility Has Its Rewards” sweepstakes. Reid, originally from Oberlin, Ohio, was randomly selected after she pledged to be a designated driver. One of more than 17,000 Indians fans who pledged to be designated drivers this year at Progressive Field, Reid won a pair of tickets to Game 1.
