Britain’s Dan Lawson wins European 24-hour title

Britain’s Dan Lawson won the IAU European 24-Hour Championships in Albi, France, on Sunday, as Sweden’s Maria Jannson took the women’s title.
Lawson completed 261.843km (162.7 miles) to beat Czech Republic’s Ondrej Velicka by just over 3km.
Lithuania’s Aleksandr Sorkin led for the first 21 hours and was out in front by as much as 18km at one point, but he eventually finished sixth. Lawson ran more conservatively, moving into the top five in the last three hours.
Jannson defended her title after moving into the lead at the 12-hour mark and increased her margin during the night to clock up a European best of 250.647km (155.7 miles).
