Ukraine – Superleague Round 8: Kryvbas edge Zaporizhya by one point

DmytroTykhonov The most exciting game of round 8 in the Superleague took place in Zaporozhye. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 5th ranked Zaporizhya (5-2) to third ranked Kryvbas (5-3) 59-58 on Sunday evening. The guests trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 17-4 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Kryvbas dominated on the defensive end, holding Zaporizhya to just 4 points in third quarter. The best player for the winners was power forward Dmytro Tykhonov (205-92) who scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. The former international guard Sergei Popov (196-88, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 10 points and 6 rebounds. Kryvbas’ coach Valeriy Plehanov used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Maks Adam Konate (202-91, agency: Alti Sport) produced 11 points for the hosts. Kryvbas have a solid four-game winning streak. Despite that victory Kryvbas went down to fourth position due to points difference, which they share with Budivelnyk. Zaporizhya at the other side dropped to the third place with two games lost. Kryvbas is looking forward to face VolinBasket (#9) in Lutsk in the next round where they are favorite. Zaporizhya will play on the road against Budivelnyk (#5) in Kyiv and it may be a tough game between close rivals. The game with biggest result difference took place in Dnepropetrovsk. Local Dnipro (6-1) outscored 6th ranked Mykolaiv (4-4) 88-69. International forward Stanislav Tymofeyenko (202-89, agency: Octagon Europe) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 17 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Pavel Revzin contributed with 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. The former international forward Olexiy Onufriyev (202-82) replied with 22 points and 6 rebounds for Mykolaiv. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Dnipro have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 6-1 record behind leader Khimik. Mykolaiv at the other side keeps the sixth place with four games lost. Dnipro will play against Cherkasy (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Mykolaiv will have a break next round.
