USMNT Watch: Pulisic Rescues Point for Dortmund, Yedlin Back in Starting XI

Two of the prized young players in the United States men’s national team system played significant roles for their respective clubs in Europe on Saturday.

Christian Pulisic, who should feature in the USMNT starting XI for the Mexico match on November 11, secured a key point for Borussia Dortmund, while DeAndre Yedlin finally returned to the Newcastle United lineup. 

Both players are key parts of the USMNT setup and earning playing time at the club level is needed in the weeks leading up to the Mexico showdown.

Christian Pulisic Nets Stoppage-Time Equalizer for Dortmund

Pulisic came off the bench at half-time for Dortmund on Saturday against Ingolstadt.

With the clock ticking down in second-half stoppage time, the 18-year-old knocked in a rebound from close range at the right side of the net to level the contest at three goals apiece.

The goal was the second of the Bundesliga season for Pulisic, who has his sights set on a position in Jurgen Klinsmann’s lineup for the opening matches of the Hexagonal round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying.

Pulisic also produced an assist in the 3-3 draw, which came four days after he played the full 90 in the UEFA Champions League against Sporting CP.

Alfredo Morales came on for Ingolstadt in the latter stages of Saturday’s match at the Audi Sportpark. 

John Brooks was a part of the Hertha Berlin squad that jumped into second in the Bundesliga table on Saturday with a 2-1 win over fourth-placed Cologne. 

Brooks is one of a few players in the mix to start at center-back against Mexico and Costa Rica. Barring a setback, the Hertha man should line up in the middle of defense for both matches. 

Another defender you should keep an eye on before November is Timothy Chandler, who once again went the full 90 for Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday.
