Diamond sparkles in Japan

Satono Diamond made the most of the absence of Makahiki to win the Kikuka Sho (Japanese St Leger) on Sunday.
The market leader had finished third when odds-on for the Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) before being beaten a nose by Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe flop Makahiki in the Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby).
He was settled in mid-division by Christophe Lemaire who bided his time before gradually edged forward turning wide around the last bends.
