The round ended with favorites losing the games, games ending by tiny margin and even winless team recording their first victory.The most shocking disappointment of round 5 was only three-point a home defeat of 4th placed CSU Sibiu (2-2) to fifth ranked UBT Cluj Napoca (3-1) 87-84. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The guests trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 27-18 charge, which allowed them to win the game. UBT Cluj Napoca shot 61.1 percent from the field. American Kyndall Dykes (192-87, college: New Orleans) stepped up and scored 23 points and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners and Senegalese power forward Ousmane Barro (207-84, college: Marquette) chipped in 13 points and 9 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). American guard Marcel Davis (188-94, college: Utah Valley) responded with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. UBT Cluj Napoca moved-up to second place. CSU Sibiu at the other side dropped to the sixth position with two games lost. They share it with Craiova. UBT Cluj Napoca are looking forward to face Olimpic (#9) in Baia Mare in the next round and are hoping to win another game. CSU Sibiu will play on the road against CS Dinamo Bucuresti and is hoping to win this game. Very important is a road loss of third ranked Pitesti (3-2) against sixth ranked BC Timisoara (3-2) on Saturday night. Visiting Pitesti was crushed by BC Timisoara in Timisoara 76-57. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Pitesti. Serbian guard Mladen Jeremic (198-88, agency: 011 Sports) nailed 20 points and 4 assists for the winning side and Nikola Otasevic accounted for 11 points, 8 assists and 4 steals. Oradea’s coach Cristian Achim rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Steaua CSM have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 4-0 record. Defending champion Oradea dropped to the third position with two games lost. They share it with BC Timisoara and Pitesti. Steaua CSM will meet Phoenix Galati (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Oradea will play against Craiova (#7) and hope to secure a win. Olimpic has registered their first victory this season after three consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat CS Dinamo Bucuresti (0-4) 78-75. Luka Pajkovic orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Olimpic (1-3) left bottom position moving up to ninth place, which they share with Targu Mures. It was CS Dinamo Bucuresti’s fourth loss in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. Olimpic’s next round opponent will be league’s second-placed UBT Cluj Napoca on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. CS Dinamo Bucuresti will play against CSU Sibiu (#6) and hopes to get finally their first victory.The game in Craiova was also quite interesting. 7th ranked Phoenix Galati (1-2) played at the court of eighth ranked Craiova (2-2). Craiova defeated Phoenix Galati 80-69 on Saturday. Jamar Abrams stepped up and scored 20 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Phoenix Galati’s coach Florin Nini tested ten players, but that didn’t help to avoid defeat in this game. Craiova moved-up to sixth place, which they share with CSU Sibiu. Loser Phoenix Galati dropped to the eighth position with two games lost. Craiova will face higher ranked Oradea (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Phoenix Galati will play against the league’s leader Steaua CSM (#1) and hope to win that game.
