Cecchini goes deep for first Fall League homer

Gavin Cecchini continued his strong Arizona Fall League campaign by going 3-for-5 with a solo home run on Saturday, though the performance wasn’t enough to keep Scottsdale from falling to Peoria, 3-2, at Peoria Stadium.
After lining out to left field in his first at-bat, Cecchini, the Mets’ No. 3 prospect, picked up his first hit of the day, a single to left field, in the top of the third inning. He would strike out in his next trip to the plate in the fifth, swinging through a 1-2 changeup from Peoria reliever Emilio Pagan (Mariners), only to atone with a solo home run, his first of the Fall League, two innings later. In the ninth, Cecchini tallied his third hit of the contest on a groundball to second base.

After getting his first taste of the Fall League in 2015, Cecchini has hit the ground running this year in his second tour of the circuit. Through six games for the Scorpions, the 22-year-old shortstop has produced a .350/.423/.600 batting line with three extra-base hits and five RBIs, the latter giving him a share of the team lead.
