Clinical Candreva stuns Saints

Antonio Candreva’s fine finish saw a 10-man Inter Milan claim a fortunate Europa League victory over Southampton at the San Siro.
The English visitors were the better side for large portions of Thursday’s game, with Jay Rodriguez having a shot cleared off the line in the first half and Virgil van Dijk and Charlie Austin both being denied late on.
Inter offered no attacking threat whatsoever prior to the half-time interval, but improved marginally after the break and took the lead when Candreva picked out the top corner with a terrific effort on the turn from a low cross that the Saints failed to cut out.
It was the Milan club’s only shot on target in the entire match and a brief revival after taking the lead in the 68th minute came to an end just 10 minutes later when Marcelo Brozovic was sent for an early bath after his second yellow-card challenge of the game.
