Manila, Philippines, October 19, 2016 – Volero Zurich claimed the first ticket to the semifinals of the 2016 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship securing one of the top two spots of Pool B, but Pool A remains wide open, after some thrilling action – including the tournament’s first five-setter – on Day 2 of the competition at the Mall of Asia Arena.Volero Zurich struck in straight sets for the second day in a row – this time defeating Hisamitsu Springs Kobe – and securing a place amongst the top four of the competition for the fourth year running.The second qualifying spot from Pool B could be decided as early as Thursday, if VakifBank can beat Volero at 16:30 local time (08:30 GMT).Meanwhile though, Pool A remains wide open after Pomi Casalmaggiore outlasted Rexona Sesc Rio de Janeiro in five sets – although the South Americans have a mountain to climb and would need to beat defending champions Eczacbasi VitrA Istanbul or wait for hosts PSL – F2 Logistics Manila to pull a major upset over Pomi on Thursday.It all came a few hours before Super Typhoon Haima is expected to make landfall in the Philippines – and although it will be the northern part of the country that will bear the brunt of this monster coming in from the Pacific, Manila is still expected to feel some of its effects as we head into Day 3 of the tournament.Summary …
