Greece – A2 Round 2: Pagrati loses to Doukas

PanagiotisKafkis There were only 2 rounds played so far and it’s still very beginning of the Regular Season in A2. The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Pagrati (1-1) in Athens on Saturday night. Visitors were rolled over by Doukas (2-0) 89-69. The game without a history. Doukas led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Pagrati’s players. 24 personal fouls committed by Pagrati helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international guard Panagiotis Kafkis (197-80) scored 16 points and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international guard Emmanouil Papamakarios (192-80) chipped in 8 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists during the contest. Guard Sotiris Bourdanos (187-86) responded with 13 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Doukas is looking forward to face Irakleio (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Pagrati will play against Ethnikos (#10) and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident. Very important is a road loss of Aiolos Astakou (1-1) against Faros (2-0) on Saturday night. Visiting Aiolos Astakou was defeated by Faros in Keratsiniou 92-81. Kostas Kakaroudis (204-83) notched 19 points to lead the effort and Christos Petrodimopoulos supported him with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Even 13 points by guard Nikos Kaklamanos (189-81) did not help to save the game for Aiolos Astakou. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Faros will play against Kavala (#15) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Aiolos Astakou will play against Amyntas Dafnis (#9) to get more than just one victory in their record. There were no shocking results in the other games in round 2: Panionios won against Kavala on the opponent’s court 66-56. Ethnikos managed to outperform Psyhiko in a home game 78-64. Irakleio was rolled over GS Larissas on the road 83-64. Arkadikos lost to Iraklis on its own court 72-77. AE Larissas beat Holargos in a road game 81-73. Amyntas Dafnis won against Doxa Pefkon at home 77-71. The most impressive stats of the last round was 18 points and 7 rebounds by Savvas Manousos of Kavala.Kavala – Panionios 56-66Very expected game when Kavala (0-2) was defeated at home by Panionios (2-0) 66-56. The guests were ahead by 9 points but lost the second period ending it with a 1-point deficit before their 21-10 run, which allowed them to win the game. Panionios outrebounded Kavala 40-29 including 25 on the defensive glass. Bosnian-British center Fahro Alihodzic (208-89, college: UAB) notched a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international Michalis Pelekanos (198-81) supported him with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Even 18 points and 7 rebounds by power forward Savvas Manousos (208-85) did not help to save the game for Kavala. Polish-American guard Andy Mazurczak (188, college: Wisc.-Parkside, agency: Duran International) added 15 points for the hosts.
