Maddon: Cubs not capable of swiping signs
- Updated: October 19, 2016
LOS ANGELES — Cubs manager Joe Maddon laughed on Tuesday at allegations by the Dodgers that the Cubs are stealing signs. Catcher Yasmani Grandal said that he felt Chicago’s Ben Zobrist was able to tell what the Dodgers were doing and tipped off Addison Russell, which prompted several mound visits in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series.
“It’s pretty funny,” Maddon said. “We’re not into the ‘Algebra III’ or trigonometry stage yet. We’re pretty much still in new math. I don’t think our guys are capable of stealing signs.

“I really appreciate the compliment, we all do,” Maddon said. “The seed of doubt is one of the most significant tools you can incorporate against your opposition, but full disclosure, we’re not doing it.”
Zobrist also thought the accusations were laughable and responded on Twitter: “This is hilarious … umm … no I was not stealing signs. Glad you think my baseball IQ is that high.”
