ThomasHeurtel There were only 2 rounds played so far and it’s still very beginning of the Regular Season in BSL. Anadolu Efes smashed TED Kolejliler in Istanbul 109-60. The game without a history. Anadolu Efes led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to TED Kolejliler’s 26. They outrebounded TED Kolejliler 54-19 including a 21-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Anadolu Efes looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by TED Kolejliler’s players. French guard Thomas Heurtel (189-89, agency: BeoBasket) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists. American guard Bryce Cotton (185-92, college: Providence) contributed with 18 points for the winners. American guard Shannon Shorter (193-89, college: N.Texas) replied with 24 points and 8 rebounds for TED Kolejliler. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. TED Kolejliler will play next round against Usak Sportlif trying to get back on the winning streak. Anadolu Efes will try to continue on its current victory against Balikesir on the road. The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Darussafaka (1-1) in Balikesir. Visitors were defeated by Banvit (2-0) 93-88. American point guard Jordan Theodore (182-89, college: Seton Hall) scored 32 points and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Can Mutaf chipped in 22 points during the contest. American guard Brad Wanamaker (193-89, college: Pittsburgh) responded with 20 points and 8 assists. Darussafaka’s coach David Blatt tried various players’ combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn’t help. Banvit will play against Galatasaray (#4) in Istanbul in the next round. Darussafaka will play at home against Gaziantep to get more than just one victory in their record. A very close game took place in Bursa between Galatasaray and Tofas. Galatasaray (2-0) got a very close victory on the road over Tofas (0-2). Galatasaray managed to escape with a 2-point win 82-80 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Austin Daye notched 23 points and 4 assists to lead the effort. Even 26 points and 8 rebounds by Sammy Mejia did not help to save the game for Tofas. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Galatasaray will meet at home Banvit in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Tofas will play against Darussafaka (#8) in Istanbul and hope to win that game. A very interesting game took place in Gaziantep. It ended with only two-point home defeat of Gaziantep (0-2) to Pinar Karsiyaka (1-1) 75-73 on Saturday evening. The best player for the winners was Kevin Dillard who scored 14 points and 5 assists. Pinar Karsiyaka’s coach Nenad Markovic allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Pinar Karsiyaka’s next round opponent will be Trabzonspor (#16) at home and are hoping to win another game. Gaziantep will play against Darussafaka (#8) in Istanbul and hope to win that game. Important game to mention about took place in Balikesir. Demir IBB (1-1) saved a 3-point derby victory on the road edging Balikesir (1-1) 80-77 in the fight for the sixth place. Kenneth Hayes orchestrated the victory by scoring 27 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Demir IBB’s coach Ozhan Civgin used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Demir IBB will have a break next round. There were no big surprises in other games of round 2: Istanbul BBSK was beaten by Fenerbahce on the road 76-62. Trabzonspor lost to Yesilgiresun on its own court 85-89. Usak lost to undefeated Besiktas in Istanbul 65-87.
