Jamie Carragher Discusses Daniel Sturridge After Liverpool vs. Manchester United
- Updated: October 18, 2016
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher is worried Daniel Sturridge doesn’t fit in with manager Jurgen Klopp’s plans following his failure to impress in Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Manchester United.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football (h/t the Daily Mail), Carragher reflected on Sturridge’s struggles in the match:
This was a massive opportunity for Daniel Sturridge on his 100th appearance for Liverpool. Last week with England against Slovenia he failed to impress.
At Anfield he found it very difficult to get a touch and when he did it wasn’t always pretty or productive. There was a moment shortly before half-time when he tried to control the ball following a tidy pass from Philippe Coutinho, only for it to trickle into the path of Paul Pogba who darted away from the striker.
Liverpool’s fans made their frustrations known. There’s a concern that he can’t do what Jurgen Klopp wants. He certainly made life difficult for himself.
Prior to the game, Carragher had raised more than a few eyebrows with his claim that “inside the box, he’s as good as Sergio Aguero when it comes to finishing,” though he did note the England international still had to work on the rest of his game, per the Telegraph’s Callum Davis.
Here’s a summary of the reaction …
