England Football Manager Takes Tips From Mel Marshall & Other Olympic Coaches

The stand-in England football team manager, Gareth Southgate, hopes to end one of the longest runs of mediocrity and disappointment in world sport (1966 and all that) by turning to Olympic sports such as swimming for tips on how to step up their game the way athletes across many sports have at the Games.

Southgate has been listening to the likes of Mel Marshall, coach to Adam Peaty, to gain knowledge that might be applied in football, a sport far removed from swimming when it comes to structure, regularity of top-flight engagement, income, motivation, incentive, types and levels of training and relationships between athletes and national-team roles.
