Smith: Crossroads clash

Luke Campbell will head into Derry Mathews’ backyard on Saturday night and Liverpool’s Paul Smith thinks it could be the fight of the night.
I think this is a real crossroads fight for both Luke Campbell and Derry Mathews.
If Derry wants to continue to box, he has to win and if Luke wants to reach the high expectations put on him when he turned pro, then he has to beat fighters like him – and do it well.
Once he had won that Olympic gold medal in 2012, Campbell was always going to be under scrutiny, but after losing to Yvan Mendy and then being put down in the first round by Argenis Mendez last time out, he really has to perform now.
Derry has got the experience and has been around the block and that tends to work against most fighters. But I’ve got to say, I actually think Derry is better than he was before.
