Dahl, Marquez named Rockies Prospects of the Year

DENVER — The Rockies didn’t make their fans wait for the future. The MLBPipeline.com Rockies Prospect Player of the Year, outfielder David Dahl, and the Prospect Pitcher of the Year, German Marquez, finished 2016 contributing to the Major League team.

Dahl joined the club July 25, hit safely in his first 17 games and finished with a .315 batting average, 12 doubles, four triples, seven home runs and 24 RBIs in 63 games. His numbers would translate to 59 extra-base hits over a full season.

As a comparison, National League batting champ DJ LeMahieu had 51 extra-base hits. Dahl, 22, played mostly left field during his callup, and could find himself in competition for starts with Gerardo Parra, who slumped and battled a troublesome ankle injury in the first season of a three-year, $27.5 million contract.

Dahl, the Rockies’ first-round pick in 2012 (10th overall), was named Colorado’s prospect player of the year thanks in part to his strong Minor League numbers.
