Jo-Wilfried Tsonga sailed through the first round of the 2016 Shanghai Rolex Masters on Monday as he swept aside Florian Mayer in straight sets.
Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev knocked out John Isner, Benoit Paire did the same for Joao Sousa and qualifier Kyle Edmund overcame Federico Delbonis.

Tsonga played for the first time since his retirement in the U.S. Open because of a knee injury. As TennisTV revealed, the first six games of the opening set followed serve:

The Frenchman then showed his ruthless nature as he broke Mayer on the way to taking three successive games and the lead in the tie.
Tsonga broke the German twice more as he cruised through the second set, and encouragingly, he saved all five of the break points he faced over the course of the match.
