Agnis CavarsThe Regular Season in LBL2 just started. There was no lack of interesting games this round. The most important game of round 1 took place in where Kekava crushed Jelgava (0-1) 97-78 on Tuesday night. The game was mostly controlled by Kekava. Jelgava managed to win second period 27-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Jelgava 44-30 including 17 on the offensive glass. Kekava looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Jelgava’s players. 24 personal fouls committed by Jelgava helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Forward Agnis Cavars (196-86) stepped up with a triple-double by scoring 24 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners and forward Nauris Miezis (189-91) chipped in 34 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. At the losing side forward Andris Justovics (200-89) responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Jelgava will play next round against strong Ventspils Augstskola trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Kekava will try to continue on its current victory against Riga/Ridzene on the road. RSU smashed Buki/BJSS in Riga 90-70. Rihards Ginters (192-93) nailed 32 points for the winning side and Kristaps Jurjans accounted for 13 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocks. point guard Jorens Dulevskis (181-95) came up with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for Buki/BJSS in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Buki/BJSS will play next round against strong ViA trying to get back on the winning streak. RSU will try to continue on its current victory against RTU. It will be extra interesting game as RTU is their local rival from Riga. Madona (0-1) recorded a loss on the court of LU/BS Riga on Sunday night. Visitors were rolled over by LU/BS Riga 94-65. Davis Klegeris fired 27 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners.
