Carry Wood: Travis’ pitching, power hurt SF
- Updated: October 9, 2016
CHICAGO — Thrust into early relief because of an injury to starter Kyle Hendricks, Cubs reliever Travis Wood became the second reliever in postseason history to hit a home run when he took Giants reliever George Kontos deep in the Cubs’ 5-2 win in Game 2 of Chicago’s National League Division Series on Saturday night at Wrigley Field.
After stranding a runner to finish the fourth for Hendricks, Wood came to bat in the bottom half of the frame and padded Chicago’s lead with a solo home run. Wood matched Kerry Wood (2003) and Rick Sutcliffe (1984) as the only Cubs pitchers to homer in a postseason game.
