Odell Beckham Jr. Not in Danger of Being Benched, According to Ben McAdoo
- Updated: October 6, 2016
If Odell Beckham Jr. has another on-field outburst in Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers, it won’t be the NFL’s ire he’ll have to worry about, but his own team’s.
Two New York Giants coaches anonymously told Thomas George of SB Nation the team is prepared to bench Beckham over his antics. A suspension could follow for conduct detrimental to the team for one or two games.
Later Thursday, Beckham told reporters he had not been told by anyone in the organization he was facing a benching or suspension if he had a future incident.
Head coach Ben McAdoo also refuted the report, saying, “It’s news to me,” per Paul Schwartz of the New York Post.
The report comes amid a week filled with Giants teammates and media members calling out Beckham, whose displays of public displeasure are rapidly becoming a distraction.
The former LSU star has become a focus ever since his battle with Josh Norman last December that resulted in a one-game suspension. He was seen punching a kicking net in Week 3’s game against Washington (and Norman) and was penalized 15 yards in last week’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings after bumping an official.
