Mrs Danvers was “the horse nobody wanted” yet she has the chance to stretch her unbeaten record to five races in the Newmarket Academy Godolphin Beacon Project Cornwallis Stakes on Friday.
Having cost just £1,000 at Tattersalls Ireland sales in February, few could possibly have predicted that she would end up winning over £150,000 in prize-money in her first season.
But that she has done, with victory in the Super Sprint at Newbury backed up by winning a Listed race over the same course and distance.
Trainer Jonathan Portman said: “This was the logical race and she seems well enough now. She did go a bit off-colour, so it has been a race against time to get her back, but I think we’ve managed it.
