Renteria formally named White Sox manager

CHICAGO — Rick Renteria was named the 40th manager in White Sox history on Monday and will be formally introduced during a news conference at U.S. Cellular Field. Robin Ventura announced Sunday evening that his five-year managerial tenure has come to an end.
Renteria served as bench coach this past season for the White Sox and managed the Cubs in 2014, joining Johnny Evers as the only people in the history of the franchises to manage both. Evers managed the White Sox for 123 games in 1924 and the Cubs for two stints in 1913 and 1921, covering 249 games.
“He knows a lot about baseball,” White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu said of Renteria through interpreter Billy Russo. “He’s passionate about baseball.”
“Very well respected. Just a nice guy. Genuine, competitive,” White Sox pitcher Chris Sale said. “If you walked around this clubhouse he would have the respect of every single person in here.”
