Trophy option for Salouen

Salouen’s excellent effort in finishing second in the Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Chantilly on Sunday came as no surprise to his trainer Sylvester Kirk.
The Upper Lambourn handler has always rated the son of Canford Cliffs highly and had expected a big run. Salouen did not disappoint as he put in his best work at the finish but could not get to the winner National Defense.
Salouen had decent form in the book, winning in good style at Salisbury and taking second place behind Dewhurst fancy South Seas in the Solario Stakes at Sandown.
Kirk now has to decide whether to aim Salouen at the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster on October 22.
