Atletico Madrid shot to La Liga’s summit on Sunday after beating Valencia 2-0 at the Mestalla, while local rivals Real Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Eibar.

Antoine Griezmann and Kevin Gameiro provided second-half goals for Los Rojiblancos to see them past Los Che, but Gareth Bale’s single effort was only enough to rescue a point for Real after Fran Rico put Eibar into a shock lead at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Barcelona wasted their opportunity to reclaim the lead later on Sunday, too, after dropping to a 4-3 defeat at Celta Vigo despite Gerard Pique’s second-half brace, surrendering their second defeat of the campaign.

There was late drama at the Rosaleda, too, as Malaga struck twice in the last 10 minutes of their encounter against 10-man Athletic Bilbao to complete a 2-1 comeback and clinch just their second win of the season.

Espanyol also secured their third draw of the campaign after stumbling to a 0-0 stalemate at home to Villarreal, keeping their first clean sheet of the 2016-17 term.

Read on for a roundup of Sunday’s scores from Spain’s top flight, complete with a look to the updated standings and a recap of the latest results.
