Scoreboard Sunday: What the results mean

With the postseason on deck, here’s a quick look at today’s Game 162 results and what they mean for the matchups to come.

• The Orioles defeated the Yankees, 5-2, to clinch an American League Wild Card berth. Toronto, which entered Sunday tied with Baltimore in the AL Wild Card race, was neck and neck with Toronto at Fenway Park late Sunday afternoon.

• If Toronto loses and Detroit wins, then the Orioles clinch a Wild Card berth and clinch home-field advantage in the Wild Card Game. In this case, the Cleveland-Detroit make-up game would be necessary on Monday to determine the second Wild Card. If Detroit won the make-up game, then a tiebreaker between Detroit and Toronto would be necessary on Tuesday to determine the second Wild Card. Toronto would host the Tiebreaker since they defeated Detroit in the head-to-head season series, 4-3. The winner of the Tiebreaker would play at Baltimore in the AL Wild Card Game. If Detroit lost the make-up game, then the Blue Jays would play at Baltimore in the AL Wild Card Game on Tuesday.

• If Toronto wins and Detroit loses, the Blue Jays and Orioles each clinch a Wild Card berth and Toronto would host the Wild Card Game since they defeated Baltimore in the head-to-head season series, 10-9.

• If Toronto and Detroit win, the Blue Jays and Orioles each clinch a Wild Card berth and Toronto would host the Wild Card Game since they defeated Baltimore in the head-to-head season series, 10-9.
