ST. LOUIS — It will all come down to Game 162 for the Cardinals, who, with a 4-3, come-from-behind win over the Pirates at Busch Stadium, staved off potential Wild Card elimination on Saturday and set the stage for Adam Wainwright to possibly pitch his team into the postseason on the final day of the regular season.
Whether the Cardinals enter Sunday even with the Giants for the second National League Wild Card spot or one game behind them will be determined by the outcome of San Francisco’s game against the Dodgers later in the day. A potential one-game playoff between the Cardinals and Giants on Monday would be played in St. Louis. The Mets have already sealed their place as the host for next Wednesday’s Wild Card Game.
Jedd Gyorko delivered the game-winning hit with his two-out, eighth-inning home run. It was his third home run in as many games and sealed the first 30-homer season by a Cardinal since 2012.
