Moss snaps out of funk with big homer

ST. LOUIS — Cardinals manager Mike Matheny followed Brandon Moss up the tunnel after he took him out of Wednesday night’s game against the Reds in the seventh inning. He didn’t say anything, but he could tell Moss was “wearing it hard” after he struck out to end the seventh inning with runners on second and third.
Matheny left him with his thoughts and out of the lineup Thursday. In Friday’s 7-0 victory over the Pirates, Moss proved Matheny made the right decision with a two-run home run in the sixth inning that put the game out of reach.
“It’s one of those things where you want to find your swing and do all the right things, but at the end of the day all that matters is the result,” Moss said. “I wasn’t getting them. It just weighs on you and you really start living and dying by every at-bat. It just felt good tonight to have some good at-bats.”
