Ruiz rewarding Braves for patience

ATLANTA — Braves manager Brian Snitker has given Rio Ruiz his first career start at both the Major League and Triple-A levels this season. Along the way, Snitker has become one of the organization’s many members who have gained a greater appreciation for Ruiz, who struggled with Double-A Mississippi last year and then successfully tackled the challenges presented to him this year.
“[Braves general manager John Coppolella] viewed Ruiz as one of our good young players that we wanted to push, and [Ruiz] responded,” Snitker said. “He had a really solid year. Are there things he can work on? Absolutely. But he did a good job of staying competitive and holding his own at Triple-A.”
